Tom Dreesen

In September 1969, Tom Dreesen went on stage for the first time. This year he will be celebrating his 44th year in show business. According to Tom, “All of my dreams have onstagecome true and as the song goes, “The Best Is Yet to Come”.

A consistent performer in all the main showrooms in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Reno and Atlantic City and for 13 Tom years toured the nation as the opening act for Frank Sinatra. When not in those venues he’s in constant demand from corporations throughout America either as a Headliner, Master of Ceremonies or co-starring with acts from Bon Jovi to Elton John.

Tom has made over 500 appearances on national television as a standup comedian, including 61 appearances on The Tonight Show. He’s a frequent and favorite guest of David Letterman and even hosted the show during David’s absence. He’s also hosted The Late, Late Show tha
t follows Letterman.

He has written and performs in a one man show called, “An Evening of Laughter and Stories of Sinatra” a retrospective of his life that opens with him as a young boy shining shoes in a bar while Sinatra is singing on the jukebox, and ends with him many years later as a pallbearer at Frank’s funeral.

Dennis McCarthy of the Los Angeles Daily News wrote: “Only a guy who traveled with Sinatra for 13 years and stood in the wings watching him work his magic night after night to
packed houses could pull off a show like this. It is filled with funny jokes and poignant stories about being on the road with the Chairman of the Board that you won’t hear anyplace else.”

He has come a along way from his hometown of Harvey, Illinois where as a lad he shined shoes and sold newspapers on the corner. That suburb has since honored him by naming the street after Tom.

Dreesen gives generously of his time helping struggling comics, devoting a great deal of time to charities and benefits. He founded a “Day for Darlene” to benefit Multiple Sclerosis research. The occasion is named for his late sister who was afflicted with the disease. An ex GI, Tom performs on military bases all over the world and recently performed for our troops on bases throughout Iraq. Frank Sinatra said, “If I’m a Saloon singer then Tommy is a saloon comedian. By that I mean we’re just a couple of neighborhood guys.”

Larry Wilde author of The Great Comedians said “Excellent material, superb delivery, impeccable timing. Tom Dreesen is the quintessential comedian.”

Rick Kogan of the Chicago Tribune said, “ Brilliant, Funny, Poignant.”

Ladd Ehlinger Jr. aka FILM LADD has worn many hats in his varied career – writer, director, producer, editor, cinematographer, 3D animator, blogger, programmer, weapon laddsystems designer, even radio talk show host.

He worked for NASA and the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command making animations, videos, and various classified websites. After that, he co-founded an online 3D render farm called Respower with clients like Paramount (Star Trek), Sony, Nikelodean, Disney, and more.

Flatland The Film is now a favorite of math and geometry teachers world-wide who wish to treat their students to a brief reprieve of the torture of their classes.

Hive Mind is a post-apocalyptic feature film about the last man on Earth, conservative talk show host Doug Trench, a.k.a. The Trench Mouth. Humanity has been assimilated by the Hive Mind, a collective consciousness that turns everyone into zombies. Trench, hidden in a bunker for twenty years, now running out of food and booze, cigars and coffee, and the last vestiges of his sanity, flips on his radio transmitter one last time to fight the mind of the Hive with the only weapon at his disposal: words!

After making these two independent feature films, Ladd turned his attention to participating in the political world, creating multiple ads for multiple candidates across the nation, creating millions upon millions of views and hundreds of thousands of dollars of free earned media and name recognition.

Show #109

British born Ivan “Steve”Hayes first arrived in Hollywood in 1949 and moved there permanently in 1950. An actor for ten years, he worked in movies at MGM, Warner Bros., IvanhayesParamount, Columbia, RKO, Universal Studios and the Samuel Goldwyn Studios as well as in early network television and radio.

While he was under contract at 20th Century Fox, the studio insisted Ivan find a more American-sounding name. He chose Steve, after the name of his friend Steve Reeves, a former Mr. Universe who later became world-famous as “Hercules.”

When not acting or writing books and screenplays, Steve helped support himself by working in restaurants and parking cars at Hollywood’s glamorous Sunset Strip nightspots like the Mocambo, Ciro’s, Villa Nova, and The Players. He also did detective work for the Fred Otash Detective Agency and painted movie stars’ homes and famous places like the Garden of Allah.

Then, in 1954, he became night manager of Googie’s, a popular coffee shop next to Schwab’s Drugstore that was made famous by James Dean, John Saxon, Natalie Wood, Rod Steiger, James Garner, Jayne Mansfield and other celebrities like western writer Louis L’Amour and Hollywood gossip columnist Sidney Skolsky.

During that time Steve befriended numerous movie stars like Errol Flynn, Tyrone Power, googiescompMarilyn Monroe, Ava Gardner, Clark Gable, Alan Ladd, Lana Turner, Sterling Hayden and Robert Middleton, all of whom influenced his life and gave him material for his recently published two-volume memoirs, Googie’s: Coffee Shop to the Stars.

A world traveler, Steve has explored the Amazon river by small boat, dug for gold in Alaska, climbed Kilimanjaro, ridden elephants at India’s Tiger Tops game preserve, photographed the Mountain Gorillas in Uganda, been on safaris in Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa and trekked in Tibet and the Himalayas. In 1958 he went to Cuba, where he met Ernest Hemingway before joining the Cuban Revolution, led by Fidel Castro, Raul Castro, Che Guevara and the American Army deserter, William Morgan.

An adventurous, oft-married raconteur, Steve still writes novels and screenplays and presently lives at the beach in Huntington Beach, California, with his lovely wife of twenty-five years, Robbin.IMG_0001

“As for Errol Flynn, I was a house guest of his for a while and hung out with him. We used to go to all the big Hollywood nightclubs (Ciro’s, Mocambo, Earl Carroll’s, Cocoanut Grove, etc) together and have a great time. But since he was an alcoholic, and I was his pal, I felt obligated to keep him out of trouble — which, by the way, he usually didn’t initiate; it just came to him — and to get him back home in one piece. I did the same thing for several other big stars like Sterling Hayden and Ty Power. That kept me on my toes and usually sober.

“I went out with Ava Gardner and Lana Turner on occasion, and was a friend of Marilyn Monroe’s (we spent time together during her wild relationship with DiMaggio) and I would have one drink during dinner; but again, because of my innate violence, seldom had more than one drink. Not sure where that violence stems from; if you met me you’d never dream it existed. But all my wives saw it frequently whenever I was challenged in some way. And all made a point of telling me to stay sober. Today, I am loved by my wife, Robbin (she’s 29 years my junior) and her partygoer buds because I am the official designated driver!!

Kyra Pahlen & THE TRUTH ABOUT FIDEL CASTRO REVOLUTION – The daughter of film producer Victor Pahlen who produced Cuban Story (1959), a truly revolutionary motion kryapicture is certainly the only film in history to star both Errol Flynn and Fidel Castro!

Cuban Story, a truly revolutionary motion picture is certainly the only film in history to star both Errol Flynn and Fidel Castro! Back in the 1950s, Errol Flynn and producer Victor Pahlen owned a movie theater in Havana.

They happened to be there when Castro’s revolution broke out around them, so they took to the streets with their cameras to document history as it happened, at ground zero.

The result was a unique documentary of Castro’s uprising, hosted by Flynn, featuring unrivaled footage of the conflict and Castro himself.

Circumstances outside their control shelved the film for nearly fifty years; “Cuban Story” has never been screened, never seen, never released–until now. All Day Entertainment is proud to have worked with the Pahlen family to restore this landmark documentary from the only surviving negative materials, stored in England for nearly a half century. Includes an introduction by producer Victor Pahlen’s daughter
